Te mapa
Manizales sits at about 2,150 metres in the Central Cordillera of the Colombian Andes. It is built along a narrow, winding ridge. On a map the city looks unusual: a long, thin band of streets tracing the crest, and short, steep branches reaching down into ravines on either side. The main avenue follows the ridge for much of the city's length.
The historic centre, near the Plaza de Bolívar, has a regular grid that was rebuilt after fires in the 1920s. The Cathedral Basilica there has one of the tallest church towers in Colombia. Outside the centre, streets bend to follow the terrain, and cable car lines cross the valleys, showing as straight lines over steep ground.
Manizales is a university city and one of the hubs of Colombia's coffee region, which is part of the UNESCO-listed Coffee Cultural Landscape. On clear days the snow-capped Nevado del Ruiz volcano can be seen to the southeast. A Manizales map poster shows how completely the mountains shape the city, stretching it along a single spine of high ground.

Around the Plaza de Bolívar and the cathedral, a compact rectangular grid stands in contrast to the curving streets that follow the terrain elsewhere.
Aerial cable car routes cross the ravines in straight lines. They connect neighbourhoods that are close together in distance but separated by steep valleys.

Koteā ko Manizales
Manizales is remembered by students, coffee-region travellers and everyone who has seen the ridge disappear into the clouds. Its unusual shape makes a striking poster, one that shows immediately that this is a mountain city.
Add your own title, a subtitle such as a year of study or a neighbourhood, and the coordinates line. Then pick Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Noir makes the thin ridge of streets stand out like a line of light.
