Fengping Map Poster & Print
Fengping lies in the eastern part of Chongqing municipality, a mountainous region near the Three Gorges section of the Yangtze. The terrain decides everything here. On a map, the settlement stretches along valley floors and terraces, and the roads bend back and forth to climb slopes that are too steep for a straight line.
Unlike cities on plains, the streets here do not form a grid. They follow contour lines, fork where valleys split, and bunch together wherever there is flat ground. Streams run along the valley bottoms, and the land around the built-up area is marked mostly by winding rural roads that link small villages on the slopes.
A Fengping map poster captures this vertical landscape in two dimensions. The curving roads and irregular shape of the town show how people build in mountains when there is little flat land.
