Te mapa
Freeport sits on the South Shore of Long Island in Nassau County, where the land breaks up into canals, creeks and marshes before reaching the bays behind Jones Beach. On the map, the northern part of the village is a regular grid of streets, while the southern part turns into a comb of narrow canals lined with houses and boat docks.
The Long Island Rail Road runs through the village, linking it to New York City. Freeport is known for the Nautical Mile along Woodcleft Canal, a waterfront strip of seafood restaurants, fishing boats and marinas. Its harbour has long been a base for fishing and boating on the South Shore.
A Freeport map poster shows the meeting of suburb and water. The regular streets in the north, the rail line crossing them and the intricate canal pattern in the south create one of the most graphic maps on the Long Island coast. In black and white, the canals become a striking pattern of parallel fingers.
In the south of the village, long parallel canals cut into the land, each lined with houses, forming a distinctive comb pattern at the water's edge.
Woodcleft Canal and the waterfront strip along it form the Nautical Mile, known for seafood restaurants, fishing boats and marinas.
North of the canals, a regular street grid is crossed by the LIRR line, with the village centre near the station.

Koteā ko Freeport
Freeport is a place of boats, summer evenings on the Nautical Mile and houses on the water. A map of it suits anyone who lives on the South Shore, grew up there or keeps a boat nearby, and it works well in coastal or modern interiors.
