Te mapa
Gāndhīdhām is one of India's younger cities, planned in the years after Partition to house refugees from Sindh. Its map reflects that origin: rather than the tangled lanes of an old bazaar town, it shows a regular layout of sectors, broad roads and large blocks arranged with deliberate spacing. The city grew together with neighbouring Ādipur, founded at the same time, forming a single urban area.
To the south, the land flattens into saline marshes, mudflats and tidal creeks leading to the Gulf of Kutch. The port of Kandla, now known as Deendayal Port, lies a short distance away, linked to the city by roads and railway lines. On the poster, the orderly street pattern ends sharply against these open, empty flats, creating a striking edge.
Gāndhīdhām has become a major trading and logistics centre for western India, closely tied to port activity, salt production and the timber trade. A Gāndhīdhām map poster captures something unusual in India: a city drawn from scratch within living memory, with the geometry of its original plan still clearly legible from above.
The city is divided into planned sectors with wide roads and regular blocks, a clean and legible pattern that reflects its mid-twentieth-century design for resettled families.
South of the city, finely branching tidal creeks and open marshland fill the map with delicate lines, a dramatic contrast to the straight streets of the planned town.
Transport links run from the city toward the port, drawing long straight lines across the flat terrain and showing how closely Gāndhīdhām's growth is tied to the harbour.

Koteā ko Gāndhīdhām
Gāndhīdhām means a great deal to Sindhi families whose parents and grandparents rebuilt their lives here, and to everyone who works in the port and trade economy of Kutch. Its planned grid and the empty flats beside it make an unusually clear and meaningful map.
