Gardner is a small city in northern Worcester County, Massachusetts. It is known as the Chair City because of its long history of furniture making. Its best-known symbol is an oversized chair that stands in the city as a tribute to that industry, and Mount Wachusett rises a short distance to the south.
The map shows a New England industrial town shaped by hills and water. The downtown is compact, with older mill-era streets. Around it, residential neighbourhoods follow the uneven ground, and several lakes and ponds, including Crystal Lake, create open spaces between them. Wooded land presses in on all sides.
