Te mapa
Gaya sits on the west bank of the Phalgu River in southern Bihar, and the river is the most striking element on its map. For much of the year the Phalgu is a broad, mostly dry bed of sand, drawn as a wide pale band along the eastern side of the city, with the streets of the old town gathering close to its banks.
Low rocky hills rise in and around the city, and the street pattern bends to fit them. The older quarters form a dense tangle of narrow lanes near the river, while newer districts stretch out along the main roads and the railway. The result is an irregular, closely packed plan with occasional open patches where the hills break through.
Gaya is one of Hinduism’s most important places for ancestral rites, centred on the Vishnupad Temple beside the Phalgu. Bodh Gaya, where the Buddha is said to have attained enlightenment, lies a short distance to the south. A Gaya map poster traces the riverbank, the hills and the old lanes that pilgrims have walked for centuries.
The wide, sandy bed of the Phalgu runs along the city’s eastern edge, a strong band on the map that fills with water mainly during the monsoon.
Near the river the temple district forms a dense cluster of lanes and ghats, the historic core around which much of the old city grew.
Several bare hills rise within and beside the city, interrupting the street pattern and leaving distinct open shapes among the surrounding neighbourhoods.

Koteā ko Gaya
For families from Bihar and for those who have travelled to Gaya for rituals or pilgrimage, the city carries real weight. A map of it is a restrained way to mark that connection, showing the river and old town without the noise of a photograph.
Personalise the title and subtitle, perhaps with a family name, and set a meaningful date on the coordinates line. There are five styles to choose from, including Noir and Sand. Download the watermark-free 300 DPI files for $9, or order a printed poster on matte paper.
