Gerede lies in the uplands of Bolu Province, in northwestern Anatolia, on the long-established route between Ankara and Istanbul. From above, the town is defined by roads: the main highway corridor passes nearby, and a route toward the Black Sea region branches off here, making Gerede a significant junction in the region's transport network.
The town sits at a relatively high elevation, surrounded by a landscape of plateau, pastures and forested hills. Its core has an irregular pattern of streets around older neighbourhoods, while newer blocks extend along the main roads.
