Te mapa
Gharaunda lies in Karnal district in northern Haryana, on the national highway that follows the historic Grand Trunk Road between Delhi and the north. On a map the highway is the town's spine: a broad, straight line running roughly north to south. The older settlement clusters on one side, and newer building stretches along its length.
The land around it is some of the most intensively farmed in India. From above it shows as a patchwork of rectangular plots divided by field tracks and irrigation channels. Gharaunda's inner streets are tighter and less regular, the kind of pattern a market town forms when it grows around an old route over many generations.
Its position on this ancient road made the town a halting place for travellers, and gateways of a Mughal-era caravanserai still stand here. A Gharaunda map poster brings that continuity into view: the old lanes, the highway that replaced the caravan route and the orderly farmland stretching away on all sides.
The national highway along the line of the Grand Trunk Road runs straight through Gharaunda. It is the strongest single line on the map and the axis the town grew around.
Near the centre, narrow and irregular lanes form a dense knot. They look clearly different from the straight highway and the planned plots on the town's outskirts.
Rectangular farm plots, tracks and irrigation channels surround the town. They give the edges of the map a fine, regular texture typical of the Haryana plains.

Koteā ko Gharaunda
For families from Gharaunda and nearby villages, the town is where market days, school years and journeys along the highway began. A map of it is modest and personal, a way to mark roots in a place most travellers only pass through on the road north.
