Te mapa
Glen Burnie is an unincorporated community in northern Anne Arundel County, Maryland, just south of Baltimore and close to BWI Marshall Airport. Its map is classic mid-century American suburbia: a small older commercial centre, broad arterial roads, and many neighbourhoods of curving streets and cul-de-sacs spreading outward in irregular clusters.
Ritchie Highway, Maryland Route 2, runs north to south through the community and remains its main spine, lined with shopping centres. The Baltimore light rail ends at Cromwell station, and Interstate 97 and Route 100 cross the area. Small creeks draining toward the Patapsco River and the Chesapeake Bay cut green corridors between the streets.
The community takes its name from the Glenn family, who owned much of the land in the nineteenth century. A Glen Burnie map poster reveals the layered texture of suburban growth: the old centre, highway interchanges, the rail line and the creek valleys that decided where the curving streets could go.
Route 2 runs through the community as a long, straight spine, with the surrounding neighbourhoods branching off it on either side.
The Baltimore light rail line ends at Cromwell station, and its track draws a steady line toward the city across the sheet.
Small creeks and their wooded banks break up the suburban pattern, leaving curving open corridors between the residential streets.
