Te mapa
Glenville lies in Schenectady County, New York, on the north side of the Mohawk River opposite the city of Schenectady. The village of Scotia sits within the town at the river's edge, and the densest streets are found there. North and west of Scotia, Glenville spreads into suburban subdivisions, farmland and wooded hills, so the map moves from a tight grid by the water to open country.
The Mohawk is the main feature, a broad river crossed by the bridges that link Scotia and Glenville with Schenectady. The town also contains Schenectady County Airport, shared with the Stratton Air National Guard Base, whose ski-equipped aircraft support research missions in the polar regions. The area was first settled by Dutch families in the seventeenth century.
A Glenville map poster works well with the Mohawk River across the lower part of the frame. The river gives a strong horizontal line, the Scotia grid sits right on it, and the rest of the town unfolds northward in looser streets and the long runways of the airport. Include Schenectady's edge and you have both banks of the same river valley.
The river forms Glenville's southern boundary, a wide, calm band of water between the town and Schenectady, crossed by road bridges near Scotia.
The village of Scotia holds the most regular streets in the town, a compact grid beside the river that contrasts with the curving roads further north.
Schenectady County Airport cuts long straight runways into the map north of Scotia, among the most geometric shapes in an otherwise suburban and rural town.
