Te mapa
Grand-Lahou lies on the coast west of Abidjan, where the Bandama river reaches the sea through a system of lagoons. On a map, the area is dominated by water: long lagoon channels, a narrow sandbar along the ocean and islands and inlets where the river spreads out before it meets the Atlantic.
The old town was built on the sandbar, but coastal erosion has worn away much of that strip, and a large part of the population has moved to a newer town on the mainland. This gives the place an unusual double shape, with streets on both sides of the water.
East of the town, Azagny National Park protects wetlands and forest along the lagoon. A Grand-Lahou map poster shows a place defined by the meeting of river, lagoon and sea, and by a coastline that is still changing.
Wide lagoon channels shape most of the map, with thin strips of land and small islands threaded between the river and the ocean.
A narrow barrier of sand separates the lagoon from the Atlantic, a long clean line that runs along the edge of the poster.
Streets appear both on the old coastal site and on the mainland, reflecting the move of many residents away from the eroding shore.

Koteā ko Grand-Lahou
Grand-Lahou's lagoon shape makes a striking, mostly empty composition, where a few streets sit among large areas of water. It is a meaningful gift for people from the Ivorian coast and for those who follow its changing shoreline.
