Granja is a municipality in the northwest of Ceará, in Brazil's Northeast. It stands on the Coreaú River, a short distance inland from the Atlantic coast at Camocim. It is one of the older settlements in this part of the state, and its centre is small and walkable, with streets arranged around squares and churches in the way of many of the region's colonial-era towns.
On a map the river is the defining feature. It curves past the town and continues north toward the sea. The built-up area follows its bank, then thins into scattered houses and fields. The municipality covers a wide area, much of it semi-arid land with roads linking small communities, so wider framings show sparse, open country around a dense centre.
