Te mapa
Gryazi lies in Lipetsk Oblast in central Russia, on the River Matyra, not far northeast of Lipetsk itself. On a map, the town is organised around the railway. Several lines meet here, and their long, straight tracks and wide yards cut the town into sections. Residential streets fill the spaces between them in fairly regular blocks, and the river valley softens the edge of the town.
The town grew in the nineteenth century as a rail junction, and the railway remains the main reason for its shape. The name translates roughly as muds, a reminder of the wet ground in the area. Nearby, the Matyra has been dammed to form a reservoir, and the map shows open water and green land along the valley.
A Gryazi map poster turns those crossing rail lines into a striking graphic pattern. Straight tracks meet at sharp angles, the river curves gently past, and the blocks of houses fill the gaps. In black and white, the composition feels almost technical, which suits a town that exists largely because trains needed somewhere to meet.
Several railway lines converge in Gryazi, and their straight tracks and broad yards dominate the plan, dividing the town into clearly separated districts.
The River Matyra runs by the town, with a reservoir along its course, adding soft curves and open water to an otherwise angular layout.
Between the tracks, residential streets form regular grids, so the poster alternates between dense blocks and the long clean lines of the railway.
