Te mapa
Guaynabo lies immediately south-west of San Juan and is part of Puerto Rico's largest metropolitan area. Its map changes as it moves inland. The northern part, near San Juan Bay, is flatter and densely built, with busy roads and shopping districts. Further south, the land rises into steep hills, where roads twist along the ridges and neighbourhoods sit scattered among trees.
Guaynabo holds a significant place in the island's history. The ruins of Caparra, the first Spanish settlement in Puerto Rico, founded by Juan Ponce de León in 1508, lie within the municipality and are preserved as an archaeological site. The settlement was later moved to the islet where Old San Juan now stands.
A Guaynabo map poster shows the full range of this landscape in one frame: the dense grid near the coast, the expressways heading into San Juan, and the winding hill roads to the south. The shift from orderly to organic street patterns makes the composition unusually varied.
The site of the island's earliest Spanish settlement lies in the northern part of the municipality. It is a small area with outsized historical importance.
In the south, roads follow the ridgelines in tight curves. Neighbourhoods are scattered among wooded slopes rather than laid out in blocks.
Close to San Juan, the streets become dense and regular. Major highways cross this part of Guaynabo and tie it into the capital.

Koteā ko Guaynabo
Guaynabo is home to many people who work in San Juan but look for quieter streets in the hills. For them, a map of the municipality is more personal than one of the capital. The contrast between coast and hills gives the print real depth.
