Tortola is the largest of the British Virgin Islands. It is long and narrow, with a steep ridge running almost its full length. From above, the coast is a series of bays and points. The north shore opens into sandy coves between green headlands. The south coast is more sheltered and faces a channel toward the smaller islands of the chain.
Road Town, the territory's capital, lines Road Harbour on the south coast. The street grid is densest here, and marinas and ferry piers break up the shoreline. From the harbour, roads climb the ridge in tight hairpins and drop down to the northern bays. At the eastern end, a short bridge links Tortola to Beef Island and the main airport. A Tortola map poster makes the shape of this steep terrain easy to read.
Sage Mountain, the highest point in the Virgin Islands, rises near the centre of the island. It is protected as a national park and keeps remnants of old forest. Tortola is also a major sailing base, and its sheltered waters make it the starting point for many charters through the surrounding islands.

Cane Garden Bay and the other northern beaches form a chain of curved bites in the coastline. Each is reached by a road that winds down from the central ridge.
A short crossing at the eastern tip connects Tortola to Beef Island, where the airport runway lies almost flat against the water.

Koteā ko Tortola
For sailors, Tortola is where many voyages begin and end. The map can recall a charter, a season working in the islands or a home on the hillside, and the long silhouette fits both landscape and portrait frames.
You can set the title, subtitle and coordinates line to record a boat name or a date, and choose one of five styles. Order a matte printed poster, or download the HD files for $9 and print them locally.
