Te mapa
Guézon is in the Montagnes district of western Ivory Coast, a region of rolling hills, forest remnants and cultivated plots that stretches towards the Guinean and Liberian borders. On a map, towns of this size tend to gather along a main road, with a looser web of lanes spreading out into the surrounding fields.
The street pattern here is informal rather than planned. Tracks follow the lie of the land, and clusters of compounds give the map its texture. Once you leave the centre, lines thin out quickly into farm paths, and small streams mark the low ground in the rainy season.
Western Ivory Coast is one of the country's farming heartlands, and cocoa and other tree crops shape much of the countryside around towns like this one. A Guézon map poster records a quiet place in modest line work: a few firm roads and many fine paths leading outward, where the town meets the land it farms.
The principal road gives the map its backbone, and most of the built-up area gathers along it before the lanes branch off.
Beyond the centre, fine lines trace paths out to plantations and fields, making a delicate pattern that fades towards the edges of the frame.
The town belongs to a hilly western region, and its streams and uneven terrain explain why the streets curve instead of running in straight lines.

Koteā ko Guézon
A map of a hometown in the west of Ivory Coast can mean a great deal to people who have moved to Abidjan or abroad. It keeps the familiar roads and paths in view, simplified into something calm enough to hang.
