Hillsborough is a large township in Somerset County, central New Jersey. Unlike a compact town, it spreads across a wide area of rolling land, with residential neighbourhoods, farmland and woodland interspersed. The Sourland Mountain ridge rises in the south-west, and river valleys border other parts of the township.
The street pattern reflects this mix. Older country roads wind along the contours of the land, while newer subdivisions introduce loops and cul-de-sacs between them. U.S. Route 206 runs through the township, forming a main north–south axis across the map, with open land extending on either side.
