Homa Bay is the capital of Homa Bay County in western Kenya, on the southern shore of the Winam Gulf, the long inlet of Lake Victoria. On a map, the lake sets the whole composition. The town spreads along an irregular coastline, with its streets running inland from the shore, and Homa Hill rises steeply to the east.
The town serves as a port and a market for fishing communities along the gulf, and boats link it with islands and other shore towns. To the southwest is Ruma National Park, one of the few places in Kenya where the rare roan antelope is found. The lake's shoreline gives the map its most varied lines.
