Te mapa
Huixing lies on the northern side of the Chongqing metropolitan area, where the city has grown outward from its old river peninsula. Like much of Chongqing, the land is uneven. Roads loop around low hills, and the flatter pockets hold large residential compounds, schools and commercial streets.
From above, Huixing reads as a district of the recent expansion. The avenues are broad and straight where the ground allows, and they bend into curves where it does not. Expressway ramps and large interchanges link the area to the rest of the city. Between these main roads sit superblocks with their own internal lanes.
A Huixing map poster shows a different side of Chongqing from the famous confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing. It is the planned, fast-built part of the city, and its layout records how a mountain metropolis spread onto new ground within a few decades.
Large residential compounds form a patchwork of rectangles and irregular shapes. Each one has its own network of small lanes inside, framed by wide urban roads.
Where the ground rises, streets curve and split to go around it. This gives the district an organic look that sits alongside its planned avenues.
Elevated roads and interchanges cross the district in sweeping lines. On the poster they tie Huixing into the much larger Chongqing network.
