Te mapa
Hŭngnam lies on the east coast of North Korea, on the Sea of Japan, near the city of Hamhŭng. On the map, the port and coastline form the southern edge. Industrial areas and residential districts spread inland across the flat coastal plain, with hills rising further back.
The city developed as a centre of heavy industry, especially chemicals and fertiliser production, and much of its layout reflects that role, with large plant sites alongside housing and the port. In December 1950, during the Korean War, the harbour was the site of a large evacuation of troops and civilians by sea.
A Hŭngnam map poster presents the city in outline. It shows the shape of the coast, the harbour, the large blocks of industrial land and the rows of residential streets. The map reflects the available cartographic data, and the composition relies on the contrast between the sea and the built-up plain.
The port and shoreline form the southern edge of the poster. The line where land meets the sea is the defining feature of the composition.
Large sites for heavy industry take up much of the city. They appear as broad blocks with sparse internal streets, set apart from the residential areas.
The city spreads across flat ground between the sea and the hills inland. Its roads connect it to Hamhŭng nearby.

Koteā ko Hŭngnam
For families whose history includes the 1950 evacuation, many of whom now live in South Korea and abroad, a map of Hŭngnam can carry deep personal meaning. It is a quiet way to keep the memory of a place close.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with a family name or the year 1950. Then choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Paper gives the map a thoughtful, archival character.
