Te mapa
Hwangju-ŭp is the seat of Hwangju County in North Hwanghae Province, south of Pyongyang. On a map it forms a compact town set in a broad agricultural valley, with the railway and main road running through it on the route between the capital and the south of the country.
The surrounding land is a mix of flat fields and low hills. The county is widely associated with apple orchards, and the countryside around the town shows the regular patterns of cultivated land. Rivers and streams wind across the valley floor, adding softer lines to the composition.
A Hwangju-ŭp map poster presents a place few outsiders know, drawn simply and without embellishment. The rail line and road give it a strong axis, the town forms a clear centre, and the fields and hills around it fill the frame with quiet detail.
The railway and main road pass through the town on the route south from Pyongyang, forming the strongest straight lines on the map.
Flat fields surround the town, their regular divisions creating an even texture across the valley floor, including land associated with orchards.
Higher ground rises around the valley, visible as areas with few roads where the pattern of settlement thins out.
