Te mapa
Hyūga lies on the Pacific coast of Miyazaki Prefecture. Its name recalls the old province of Hyūga, which once covered the whole region. The town spreads over a coastal plain between the sea and wooded hills, and the Mimi River reaches the Pacific at its southern end. On a map the built-up area is fairly compact, with a clear grid near the station and looser streets toward the hills.
The coast is the main story. Hososhima is one of the most important ports in Miyazaki, and its long breakwaters and quays draw hard geometric lines into the sea. Beyond the port the shoreline breaks into rocky headlands, including Cape Hyūga, where cliffs of columnar basalt and the narrow Umagase inlet draw visitors. The sandy beaches between them are popular with surfers.
A Hyūga map poster shows how much of the town is shaped by water. The harbour's engineered edges, the ragged capes and the river mouth all sit within one frame. It suits people from Miyazaki, surfers who know these beaches, and anyone drawn to Japan's quieter coasts, far from the usual city prints.
Breakwaters and quays form sharp straight lines along the coast. They are a strong industrial contrast to the natural curves of the shoreline around the harbour.
Along the cape the coast becomes rocky and deeply indented, with narrow inlets cut into basalt cliffs. This gives the map an intricate, jagged edge.
The river meets the Pacific at the southern end of town. Its wide channel and the small historic port beside it add a softer shape to the coastline.

Koteā ko Hyūga
Hyūga is not a place people pass through by accident. Those who hang its map usually have a real tie to it: family in Miyazaki, a surf trip, a job at the port. The poster keeps that connection in view, with a design that stays calm despite the busy coastline.
