Te mapa
Ibirapitanga is a municipality in the south of Bahia, in a belt of hilly, humid country long associated with cacao growing. The town is small. On a map its streets form a modest cluster shaped more by the terrain than by a strict plan: they bend with the slopes and follow the valleys, where building is easier.
Around it lies a mix of farmland, cacao groves shaded by taller trees, pasture and remnants of Atlantic Forest. Rural roads wind through the hills in long, irregular curves, and small streams cut down between the slopes. On the poster these meandering lines contrast with the tighter knot of the town centre and fill the frame with movement.
The name comes from Tupi and is usually read as red wood, a traditional name for brazilwood, the tree that gave the country its name. An Ibirapitanga map poster suits anyone with roots on the cacao coast of Bahia and shows a hill town in its setting, drawn with the same care as a major city.
Instead of a rigid grid, the town's streets follow the lie of the land. They curve along slopes and valley floors and give the centre an organic outline.
The surrounding hills belong to the southern Bahia cacao region, where shaded plantations and forest remnants mix with pasture across the rolling landscape.
Country roads loop through the hills in long, irregular curves. On the map they read as flowing lines that radiate out from the compact town.
