Te mapa
‘Ibrī lies in the Ad Dhahirah region of Oman, on the broad plain that slopes away from the western side of the Hajar Mountains toward the desert. From above the town is a cluster of streets around its old oasis, where date palm groves still form dark, irregular shapes. Newer neighbourhoods have grown in straighter lines across the surrounding gravel.
The town is the main centre of its region and has long served as a market and a crossroads for routes through the interior. Its fort and old quarter stand near the groves, which are watered by traditional falaj channels. Nearby, the ancient settlements and tombs of Bat, Al-Khutm and Al-Ayn are listed together as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
An ‘Ibrī map poster captures the contrast between the old and the planned. The oasis core is dense and organic, the modern districts are laid out in regular blocks, and wide roads run outward across open land toward the mountains and the desert. With so much open space around it, the town reads clearly on the page.
Date palm plantations around the old centre form irregular, softly edged shapes, marking where water has sustained settlement for centuries.
Near the fort, lanes wind closely together in the densest and most organic part of the map, very different from the grids around them.
Broad highways leave the town across the open gravel plains, drawn as long straight lines that stretch toward the edges of the poster.

Koteā ko ‘Ibrī
For Omanis from Ad Dhahirah, and for travellers who have visited the tombs of Bat, this map records an interior town with deep roots. The open land around it gives the print an unusually spacious and calm feel.
