Te mapa
Bawshar is one of the wilayats of Muscat Governorate. It occupies the stretch of land between the rocky foothills of the Hajar Mountains and the coastal plain. From above, its neighbourhoods fill the flat ground in clusters, separated by dry wadi beds and bare ridges. Wide highways run east to west and connect it to the rest of the capital.
The best-known landmark in the area is the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, completed in 2001, whose large walled rectangle stands out clearly on a map. To the south, the land rises into dark, folded hills. There is also a field of sand dunes, a rare sight so close to the city, which is popular for recreation.
A Bawshar map poster shows a pattern typical of Muscat, where the city grows in pockets wherever the terrain allows. Residential blocks, villa districts and commercial strips are laid out neatly in the valleys, and the mountains frame them in rough, empty shapes. The contrast between the regular streets and the unbuilt hills makes a strong design in monochrome.

Rocky ridges to the south that limit where the city can grow. On paper they show as open, unbuilt areas.
Dry riverbeds wind between the neighbourhoods, adding natural lines to an otherwise planned layout.
