Ilchester Map Poster & Print
Ilchester is an unincorporated community in Howard County, Maryland, on the south side of the Patapsco River near Ellicott City, between Baltimore and Columbia. The area was once an industrial mill village along the river. Today it is mostly quiet residential neighbourhoods on the wooded upland above the valley.
On a map the Patapsco valley forms the northern edge, a winding river with steep wooded slopes and the railway line along the water. Above it, the streets are typical postwar and modern suburbs, with curving roads, cul-de-sacs and loops that follow the terrain. Wide green areas show the parkland along the river.
Much of the valley is part of Patapsco Valley State Park, one of Maryland's oldest state parks, popular with hikers and cyclists.
