Te mapa
Ischgl lies in the Paznaun valley in western Tyrol, and its map is shaped entirely by the valley's narrowness. The village follows the Trisanna river and the main valley road, with hotels, chalets and lift stations packed along a thin strip of level ground. Side streets are short and steep, climbing only a little way before the terrain rises too sharply to build on.
The ski area climbs south from the village toward the Swiss border and connects with Samnaun, a duty-free village in Switzerland, forming the cross-border Silvretta Arena. Ischgl is also known for the large open-air concerts held on the mountain at the start and end of the winter season. Beyond the village, the valley continues toward Galtür and the Silvretta High Alpine Road.
An Ischgl map poster reflects that concentrated form: a single line of settlement with nothing sprawling off it, framed by blank mountain ground above and below. It is one of the simplest and most graphic compositions among Alpine resorts, and it reads clearly even at the smallest print size.
The river runs along the valley bottom beside the main road, and every street in Ischgl is oriented along or across it, giving the map its strong directional grain.
Lifts climb south from the village into a high ski area shared with Samnaun across the Swiss border, so a day on the slopes can pass through two countries.
The centre is a tight cluster of buildings around the church and the main lift stations, squeezed onto the narrow valley floor with little room to spread.

Koteā ko Ischgl
Ischgl inspires strong loyalty among those who ski it, and many return every winter to the same hotel and the same runs. A map poster of the village is a simple way to hold on to that routine between seasons.
