Jaitpur lies at the southern edge of the Delhi metropolitan area, near the border between Delhi and Haryana and not far from the Yamuna River. It grew quickly as the city spread outward, and its map looks like it: a dense, irregular grid of narrow lanes, packed with homes, shops and small workshops.
A canal runs through this part of the region, and its long straight line is one of the few fixed features in a landscape shaped by rapid growth. Past it lie the Yamuna floodplain and the larger roads that connect the area to Faridabad and southern Delhi. The streets change direction often, following old field boundaries.
