Te mapa
Jarājūs lies in Qena Governorate in Upper Egypt, within the narrow band of cultivated land that follows the Nile. From above, the settlement is a dense cluster of houses and alleys, set among rectangular fields and crossed by irrigation canals. The pattern is typical of the valley: a compact village surrounded by farmland, with roads linking it to neighbouring communities.
Beyond the farmland the landscape changes sharply. Within a few kilometres the fields end and the desert begins, a boundary that is one of the most distinctive lines on any map of Upper Egypt. The village is known beyond the region for its pottery workshops, whose handmade ceramics have been exhibited and sold across Egypt.
A Jarājūs map poster brings out this structure clearly. The tight grain of the village contrasts with the long, straight lines of canals and field edges, and the Nile valley gives the whole composition a strong direction. It is a simple map, and that simplicity is part of its appeal.
Houses and narrow lanes form a compact, irregular cluster that prints as a dark, finely detailed shape among the surrounding fields.
Straight canals and field boundaries divide the farmland into long plots, a geometric pattern shaped by centuries of farming along the Nile.
On a wider frame the cultivated valley ends abruptly where the desert begins, a clear line that shows how closely life here follows the river.
