Te mapa
Jasło lies in southeastern Poland, in the foothills of the Carpathians, where the Jasiołka and Ropa rivers flow into the Wisłoka. On a map the town is defined by these waters. The historic centre sits on higher ground between the rivers, and bridges and embankments shape the approaches from every side.
The town has a hard twentieth century behind it. In 1944 the German army almost completely destroyed Jasło, and after the war the centre was rebuilt around the old market square. The area is also linked to the early oil industry: Ignacy Łukasiewicz, the pioneer of the kerosene lamp, worked in this part of Subcarpathia.
A Jasło map poster reads as a study in confluence. Three rivers converge in soft curves, the rebuilt square forms a clear rectangle at the centre, and roads lead out toward Krosno, Gorlice and the Beskid Niski hills. In black and white, the interplay of water and streets gives the town a strong, memorable outline.
The Wisłoka, Jasiołka and Ropa meet at Jasło. Their curving channels frame the town and give the map its most distinctive feature.
The rectangular rynek, rebuilt after the war, marks the centre of the old town, with short streets leading off each side toward the rivers.
South of the town the land begins to rise toward the Beskid Niski, and a wider frame shows roads winding into wooded hill country.
