Te mapa
Jiahanbage lies in southern Xinjiang, in the Hotan oasis region near the edge of the Taklamakan Desert. Water from the Kunlun Mountains to the south makes agriculture possible here. On a map, the landscape reads as a network of canals, fields and roads that stops abruptly where cultivation gives way to desert.
The settlement is spread across the oasis rather than concentrated in a single compact town. Houses follow roads and canals, often lined with poplars. Fields and orchards fill the spaces between them. The main roads are straight and purposeful, and they link Jiahanbage to Hotan and neighbouring townships across the flat, irrigated plain.
A Jiahanbage map poster shows a landscape shaped entirely by water management. Canals and roads form long, parallel lines, and the settlement runs along them. The pattern of cultivated plots gives the drawing an even, textile-like quality. It is an unusual and striking view of oasis life in Central Asia.
Long, straight channels carry mountain water across the oasis. They form a clear network that organises fields, roads and houses.
Roads run in straight lines across the plain, typically bordered by rows of poplars, and they connect scattered clusters of houses.
Beyond the cultivated area, the map opens up where fields give way to desert. The sudden emptiness gives the composition a strong outer boundary.
