Te mapa
Jiehu is the seat of Yinan County in southern Shandong, in the hilly Yimeng region. The town sits in a valley surrounded by uplands, and its streets spread across the flatter land between the slopes. From above, the centre has a fairly regular grid of main roads, while smaller lanes and newer residential blocks fill in the spaces between them.
The Yimeng hills are well known in China, both for their landscape and for their role in the country's twentieth-century history. Around Jiehu, farmland and villages stretch toward the hills, and rivers wind through the lower ground. The town is the administrative and commercial centre for the county around it.
A Jiehu map poster shows how the town fits into its valley. The grid of the centre, the roads heading out toward the villages, and the empty space of the hills around it make a balanced composition. It is a clear, uncluttered image of a Shandong county town.
Main roads in the centre form a fairly regular grid laid across the valley floor. This gives the core of the map a clear, orderly structure.
Watercourses cross the lower ground around the town and wind toward the countryside. They add curved lines that contrast with the straight streets.
Hills rise around the valley and street density drops off quickly toward the slopes, so the town has a defined outline on the map.
