Te mapa
Zaozhuang is less a single compact city than a group of urban districts scattered across the southern edge of Shandong province. On a map, clusters of streets appear between stretches of farmland and low hills, each with its own centre. The pattern is loose and spread out, giving the poster an open composition rather than one dense core.
The city grew with coal mining, which shaped its economy for much of the twentieth century and left industrial sites and rail lines across the area. In the south, the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal passes through Taierzhuang district, adding a long water line to the map and linking the city to one of the oldest engineered waterways in the world.
Taierzhuang is also known for the 1938 battle fought there during the war against Japan, and for an old canal town that has since been rebuilt around its waterways. A Zaozhuang map poster brings these pieces together: modern districts, rolling farmland and a canal that has carried traffic across eastern China for centuries.
The historic waterway crosses the southern part of the city through Taierzhuang, drawing a steady line across the plains and linking the area to routes north and south.
Instead of one centre, several separate urban areas are spread across the territory, giving the map a pattern of distinct clusters connected by roads and rail.
A rebuilt canal-side town of lanes and small waterways in the south of the city, set along the canal that gave it its historic importance.

Koteā ko Zaozhuang
Zaozhuang is a place people tend to know closely, as a hometown, a family history in the mines or a visit to the canal town. A map poster marks that connection with a simple, honest view of how the city is laid out.
