Te mapa
Xuzhou lies in the far north of Jiangsu, where low hills break up an otherwise flat plain. From above, the most distinctive line is the old course of the Yellow River. The river left this channel long ago, but it still winds through the city as a narrow waterway lined with parks. To the southwest is Yunlong Lake, a broad expanse of open water with hills around it.
The city has been a transport crossroads for a very long time, and the map still shows it. Two major railway corridors meet here: the Beijing–Shanghai route running north–south and the Longhai line running east–west. Their tracks and yards carve long, straight lines through the districts. On a Xuzhou map poster, those lines contrast with the rounded outlines of the lake and hills.
Xuzhou's history goes back to the Han dynasty. Liu Bang, the dynasty's founder, came from this area. The Han tombs and terracotta figures excavated nearby are among the city's best-known sites. For centuries, armies passed through Xuzhou because of its position, and that same position makes it a busy rail hub today.

The lake opens up to the southwest of the centre with hills around it. It is one of the largest calm spaces on the map.
