Te mapa
Jowai is the headquarters of West Jaintia Hills district in Meghalaya, set on a ridge of rolling uplands east of Shillong. The defining feature from above is the Myntdu river, which bends almost all the way around the town, so that Jowai appears to sit inside a wide horseshoe of water and slope.
The streets follow the high ground and wind down toward the river valleys, with the market and main roads concentrated along the ridge. Jowai is also known for Behdienkhlam, a Pnar festival held each year around the monsoon, when processions move through the town and its sacred pools.
A Jowai map poster turns the river loop into the main character of the composition. The curving line of the Myntdu frames the streets, the roads meander with the contours, and the surrounding hills leave open, softly textured space around the town.
The river curves around much of the town in a broad horseshoe, forming a natural frame that is the most recognisable feature of Jowai on the map.
The market and main streets run along the higher ground, and from there smaller roads wind down toward the valleys on either side.
The surrounding Jaintia uplands appear as open, curving terrain crossed by roads that follow the contours rather than straight survey lines.

Koteā ko Jowai
The river loop makes Jowai one of the more graphic town plans in the northeast, and for people from the Jaintia Hills the shape is instantly familiar. It makes a thoughtful gift for students and families living away.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example with a festival date or family name. Five styles are available: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
