Te mapa
Juara lies in the north of Mato Grosso, in a region settled mostly from the 1970s onward as roads pushed into the southern edge of the Amazon. From above, the town is a planned grid of wide streets and large blocks. The layout is typical of Brazil's newer frontier towns, with room left for growth in every direction.
The Arinos River, part of the Juruena and Tapajós system, runs close to the town, and its winding course contrasts sharply with the straight lines of the streets. Pasture and cleared farmland stretch out around the urban area. Strips of remaining forest along rivers and streams add darker, irregular shapes to the landscape.
Cattle ranching has long been central to the local economy, and roads out of town connect it to farms spread across a wide area. A Juara map poster shows a young town defined by its grid and its river. It is a clear image of a frontier's orderly plan meeting the natural lines of the land.
Wide, straight streets divide the town into regular blocks. The open, spacious layout reflects its planned origins on the agricultural frontier.
The river curves past the town in broad meanders, a flowing natural line that sets off the geometric street plan laid out beside it.
Beyond the edge of town, roads run straight into pasture and farmland, and strips of forest follow the watercourses across the surrounding land.

Koteā ko Juara
Many of Juara's residents, or their parents, came from other parts of Brazil to build new lives here. A map of the town marks that journey, whether as a family keepsake or as a gift for someone who helped the town take shape.
