Te mapa
Várzea Grande and Cuiabá form one continuous urban area in the centre of South America, divided by the meandering Cuiabá River. On the map, Várzea Grande occupies the western bank, its street grid spreading outward from the river across flat, low ground. The name means large floodplain, a fair description of the terrain and part of the reason its neighbourhoods spread in such a broad, even pattern.
Several bridges tie the city to Cuiabá, and major highways run through it toward the rest of Mato Grosso. The international airport serving the capital is located in Várzea Grande, and its runway appears as a long, clean stroke among the surrounding blocks. The region is also a gateway to the Pantanal wetlands to the south, which gives the whole area a strong sense of water and open land.
A Várzea Grande map poster shows a city that is often overshadowed by its neighbour but has a clear shape of its own. In monochrome, the curving river forms the dominant line and the airport runway adds a single sharp geometric accent. The dense, regular grid of residential streets fills the rest of the frame with an even texture.
The river loops along the city's eastern edge, separating it from Cuiabá and giving the map a strong, sinuous boundary that frames the neighbourhoods on the western bank.
Marechal Rondon International Airport sits within the city, and its long runway cuts a straight, bold line through the grid, one of the most recognisable shapes on the map.
Across the flat terrain, streets are laid out in broad, regular blocks, producing a dense and uniform pattern that suits the precise linework of a minimalist poster.

Koteā ko Várzea Grande
To the people who live there, Várzea Grande is a place in its own right, not just the other side of the river. A map on the wall gives it that recognition, and it is a meaningful reminder of home for anyone who has moved elsewhere in Brazil or abroad.
