Judian Map Poster & Print
Judian is a town in the mountains of northwestern Yunnan, in Lijiang's Yulong area, not far from the Jinsha River, the upper Yangtze. From above, it sits in a high valley surrounded by steep ridges. The built-up area is small and compact, with a main street and lanes branching from it, and the terrain presses in on every side.
Around the town, fields spread across the valley floor and step up the lower slopes in terraces, their curved edges following the contours. Mountain roads wind up and around the ridges in long switchbacks, connecting the valley to villages and passes. Streams run down the side valleys, leaving fine lines through the farmland.
This is high, remote country, home to several of Yunnan's ethnic communities, and the landscape shapes everything from farming to the road network.
