Te mapa
Kaduna was established in the early twentieth century as the administrative capital of Northern Nigeria, and its layout still shows that origin. Broad, straight avenues, large plots and government areas were planned in the northern part of the city, while the railway and industry shaped other districts. The result is a map with more open space and regular geometry than many older cities in the region.
The Kaduna River winds through the middle of the city in loose bends, dividing it into northern and southern halves joined by a few bridges. The river's name is usually traced to the Hausa word for crocodile, once common in its waters. On the map, the green margins along its banks give the surrounding streets a natural break.
Kaduna grew into a centre of textiles, rail and education, and it remains one of the main cities of northern Nigeria. A Kaduna map poster shows the planned north, the river's wide curves and the steady growth of the southern districts, set down in precise lines that make the structure of the city easy to read at a glance.
The river loops through the city in wide curves, separating north from south, and on the poster it becomes the main line around which the rest of the map is arranged.
In the planned districts, long straight roads and generous blocks create an open, orderly pattern that reflects the city's founding as a regional capital.
Rail tracks cross the city as long, clean lines, recalling Kaduna's role as a junction on the routes connecting the north of Nigeria with Lagos and the south.
