Te mapa
Kaffrine is a town in central Senegal and the capital of the region of the same name. It lies in the groundnut basin, the flat, open savanna where peanut farming has long been the mainstay of the economy. From above, the town spreads across level ground, with the main national road and the old railway line running through it.
The town's layout reflects its role as a crossroads and market centre. Main routes cross the town and meet near the centre, while residential neighbourhoods fill the blocks around them with a looser, more irregular pattern of streets and compounds. Beyond, the map opens out into fields, tracks and scattered villages.
A Kaffrine map poster shows a town shaped by movement and trade: the long lines of road and rail, the dense market area and the wide savanna around it. It is a straightforward, honest composition for anyone with roots in the Senegalese interior.
The main national road and the railway line pass through Kaffrine, forming the long, straight lines that structure the map from one side to the other.
The busiest part of town is the market area near the crossing of the main roads, where the street pattern is at its densest.
Kaffrine sits in the flat farmland of the groundnut basin, and fields and tracks surround the town to the edges of the poster.
