Te mapa
Mbour lies on the Petite Côte, the stretch of Atlantic coastline running south from the Cap-Vert peninsula toward the Saloum delta. The town faces the sea along a long, gently curving beach. On the map the shoreline forms a smooth edge where the streets end, with the main roads running parallel to the coast and smaller lanes leading down to the water.
Mbour is one of Senegal's most important fishing centres. Every day large numbers of painted wooden pirogues are launched from the beach and return with their catch, which is landed and sold on the shore. The fishing quarter near the waterfront is the densest part of the town, with narrow lanes and closely packed buildings.
Just north of Mbour, the resort of Saly has developed along the same coastline, and the two places now almost merge. A Mbour map poster shows the town's streets spreading inland from the beach, the national road leading toward Dakar, and the sandy, open savanna beyond the last houses on the edge of town.
A long, gently curving shoreline defines the western side of the town, with streets meeting the sand along its full length.
Near the landing beach the lanes become narrow and tightly packed. This is the densest part of the map and the centre of daily life in the town.
The main road runs north along the coast toward Saly and the capital, forming a clear line that anchors the town's layout.
