Te mapa
Guédiawaye lies on the Cap-Vert peninsula, north-east of central Dakar. On the map it faces the Atlantic to the north, where a long sandy coastline runs toward the Grande Côte. Behind the beach, dunes and open ground separate the sea from the built-up area, and the city's streets begin a short distance inland.
The urban fabric is made up of planned housing districts laid out in regular grids, many built as Dakar expanded in the second half of the twentieth century. Between them, the Niayes, low-lying areas with seasonal ponds and market gardens, create irregular green patches. Main roads connect Guédiawaye with Pikine and central Dakar to the south-west.
A Guédiawaye map poster shows a place that combines tight residential grids with open coastline. It is one of the most densely populated parts of the Dakar region and has a strong local identity. From above, the contrast between the sandy coast, the ponds of the Niayes and the orderly streets makes a quietly striking design.
To the north, a long, open beach runs along the Atlantic, giving the map a smooth edge of sand and water beyond the dunes.
Much of the city is laid out in regular grids of streets, forming neat blocks that contrast with the curves of the coast and ponds.
Low-lying depressions with seasonal ponds and market gardens appear as irregular green spaces scattered between the neighbourhoods.
