Lake Tanganyika
The lake forms the whole eastern edge of the map. Its broad, open water is the strongest shape on the poster and the reason the town exists at all.

Te mapa
Kalemie lies on the western shore of Lake Tanganyika, in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The town stretches along the waterfront, and on a map the shoreline is its clearest edge, with streets laid out behind it on rising ground. The opposite shore of the lake lies in Tanzania. Hills rise behind the town and limit how far its streets can spread inland.
At the northern edge of the town is the outlet of the Lukuga River, the lake's only outflow. It drains west to the Lualaba and so into the Congo River system. Its mouth appears as a narrow break in the long shoreline. Kalemie began in 1891 as a Belgian post called Albertville, a name it kept until the early 1970s.
The town has served as both a lake port and a railway terminus, linking shipping on the lake with lines running into the interior. A Kalemie map poster captures that meeting of land and water. The streets run parallel to the shore, the river leaves the lake to the north, and the large, calm expanse of Tanganyika fills much of the frame.
The lake forms the whole eastern edge of the map. Its broad, open water is the strongest shape on the poster and the reason the town exists at all.
The lake's only outflow leaves at the town's northern edge and runs west to the Congo basin. It shows as a narrow channel breaking the straight line of the shore.
The harbour and railway terminus sit close together along the shore. They mark where cargo has long passed between lake boats and trains heading inland.

Koteā ko Kalemie
Kalemie is a town defined by the lake: the shoreline, the boats and the long view east. A map of it keeps that landscape present for people who grew up here, worked on the lake or have family along its shore.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, adding a date, a name or the old name Albertville. Choose from five styles, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Noir makes the lake especially striking.
