Te mapa
Kameoka occupies a broad basin just over the mountains west of Kyoto. On a map, the town centre is a compact grid near the railway, surrounded by a patchwork of fields and small settlements, with forested hills rising on every side. The Hozu River crosses the basin and then leaves it through a narrow, winding gorge toward Arashiyama.
That gorge is well known: flat-bottomed boats carry visitors down the Hozu River from Kameoka, and the Sagano scenic railway follows the same valley. The town was also the seat of Kameyama Castle, associated with the warlord Akechi Mitsuhide, and on autumn and winter mornings the basin often fills with dense fog.
A Kameoka map poster captures that enclosed geography. The streets gather in the middle, the land opens into fields, and the hills close the frame, while the river's exit toward Kyoto gives the whole composition a sense of direction. It is a small city with a clear shape, which is exactly what makes it work on a wall.
The river winds across the basin floor before narrowing into its gorge, a single line that ties the town to Kyoto's Arashiyama district downstream.
The old castle town around the Kameyama Castle site shows a denser, more irregular street pattern than the newer districts around the stations.
Forested mountains surround the basin on all sides, so the streets stop short at the edges of the map and the settled valley is clearly outlined.

Koteā ko Kameoka
People who have ridden the Hozu river boats or travelled out on the scenic train often want to remember the place where the journey began. For residents, the map shows the familiar basin of home, framed by its hills.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can be edited, so you can add a date or a short phrase. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, and print it yourself from the 300 DPI files or order a framed poster.
