Kampung Jeli is the main town of Jeli district in the state of Kelantan, in the interior of northern Peninsular Malaysia close to the Thai border. The town sits in a landscape of rivers, rubber and oil palm plantations and forested hills. On the map, its streets form a compact cluster, with main roads leading out towards the coast and into the mountains.
Jeli is the eastern gateway of the East–West Highway, the road that crosses the main range of the peninsula towards Gerik in Perak, through dense rainforest and high ground. The district is also home to the Pergau dam and its reservoir, and to hot springs that draw local visitors.
