Te mapa
Kanayannur is a taluk, an administrative subdivision, in the Ernakulam district of Kerala. It takes in much of the mainland side of Kochi, including the Ernakulam area, so its map covers some of the densest urban streets on the Kerala coast as well as the water around them.
The area is defined by backwaters. Channels, lagoons and islands shape the western edge, and bridges connect the mainland to the islands of the harbour. Inland, the streets become less dense, with roads following the higher ground between waterways, paddy fields and older villages that have gradually become part of the urban area.
A Kanayannur map poster shows how land and water interlock here. In black and white the backwaters become broad pale shapes against the fine lines of streets, and the result is a detailed portrait of the Kochi mainland that feels quite different from a typical city map.
To the west the land breaks into channels and lagoons, giving the map a complex shoreline that shifts between water and islands.
The densest part of the taluk is the Ernakulam urban area, where the street network is tight and closely linked to the waterfront.
Smaller canals and streams run between neighbourhoods further inland, crossed by roads and shaping the pattern of settlement.
