Te mapa
Kaunas, Lithuania's second city, grew up where the country's two largest rivers, the Nemunas and the Neris, meet. The Old Town occupies the narrow tongue of land at their junction, with the castle at its tip. From there the New Town extends east along Laisvės alėja, a long, straight pedestrian boulevard lined with lime trees.
Between the two world wars Kaunas served as Lithuania's temporary capital, and the modernist architecture built in that period earned the city UNESCO World Heritage status in 2023. It was also a European Capital of Culture in 2022. Hills rise steeply above the centre, and two historic funiculars still carry passengers up to Žaliakalnis and Aleksotas.
A Kaunas map poster is dominated by water. The two rivers form a bold Y shape across the frame, the Nemunas widens into the Kaunas Reservoir to the east, and islands, bridges and green slopes break up the streets. The straight line of the boulevard adds a clear, deliberate axis to an otherwise organic plan.
The Nemunas and Neris meet at the tip of the Old Town, a sharp point of land below the castle that gives the whole map its structure.
The pedestrian boulevard runs arrow-straight for more than a kilometre and a half through the New Town, ending at the church of St Michael the Archangel.
Upstream, a dam on the Nemunas created a wide artificial lake with a wooded, irregular shoreline, which forms a large pale shape at the city's eastern edge.

Koteā ko Kaunas
Kaunas has a strong hold on those who studied or grew up there, and on visitors drawn by its interwar architecture. A map of its rivers and boulevards makes an understated, design-minded print that fits naturally into modernist interiors.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line with Kaunas, a neighbourhood or a graduation year, then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Print sizes include A3, A2, 30×40 and 50×70 cm, and the HD files are $9.
