Te mapa
Kawaminami is a town in Koyu District, Miyazaki Prefecture, on the eastern coast of Kyushu. It faces the Hyūga-nada, the stretch of the Pacific along Miyazaki's shore. On a map, the coastline runs in a long, clean line down one side of the town, and roads and railway run parallel to it a little inland.
Kawaminami is widely known as a town built by settlers. After the Second World War, people from many parts of Japan came here to clear and farm the land, and the town still speaks of this mixed origin. That history is visible in the regular, rectangular division of fields that spreads across the flat terraces behind the coast.
A Kawaminami map poster pairs the smooth arc of the Pacific shore with the geometric grid of farmland and scattered settlement. The sea forms a wide open field on one side of the print, and the land is filled with fine, orderly lines.
A long, gently curving Pacific coast frames the town. It leaves a broad, empty sea area that balances the busier land on the print.
Fields cleared by postwar settlers form a regular pattern of rectangular plots and straight farm roads across the coastal terraces.
Main roads and the railway run roughly parallel to the shore. Their long lines tie the scattered districts together.
