Te mapa
Kharkiv grew on a promontory above the point where the Lopan and Kharkiv rivers meet, with the Udy joining a little further south. The oldest part of the city occupies this high ground, and on a map the rivers appear as narrow, winding lines that loop around it before continuing south. Streets in the centre follow the slopes, giving the core an irregular, slightly radial pattern.
North of the centre, the plan opens out dramatically. Freedom Square, one of the largest city squares in Europe, spreads as a vast open space with a rounded end, framed there by Derzhprom, a pioneering constructivist complex from the 1920s. Sumska Street and the avenues beyond run north past Gorky Park toward the wooded land at the city's edge.
Kharkiv is Ukraine's second-largest city and a major centre of universities, science and industry, and its districts reflect that mix, from dense pre-revolutionary blocks to broad Soviet residential areas on the outskirts. A Kharkiv map poster shows how the city's layers fit together, from the river valleys and old hill to the planned squares and green belt to the north.
A huge open space north of the centre, rectangular with a rounded end, it reads on the map as a striking clearing among the surrounding blocks.
The Lopan, Kharkiv and Udy wind through the city in tight curves, meeting near the old centre and drawing fine, irregular lines through the southern half of the map.
Gorky Park and the forest beyond form a wide green area at the northern edge of the city, where the dense street pattern gives way to paths and open ground.

Koteā ko Kharkiv
For many people, Kharkiv is home, a university city, or a place they carry with them from afar. A map of its streets is a way of keeping it close, and the square and river confluence give the print a clear, recognisable structure.
Use the title and subtitle for the city's name in the spelling you prefer, a date or a short line of text, and keep or edit the coordinates. Choose from five styles, including Noir for a dark print or Paper for a softer, warmer look.
