Te mapa
Sumy lies in northeastern Ukraine, where the Psel River and its small tributary, the Sumka, meet. The oldest part of the city occupies higher ground above the rivers, and from there the streets spread out in several directions. On the map, the winding course of the Psel and the green floodplain along it form a soft boundary on one side of the city.
The city was founded in the mid-seventeenth century by Cossack settlers as a fortified town, and later became a regional centre. Its skyline includes churches such as the Transfiguration Cathedral in the centre. The historic streets are more regular than in many older towns, with main roads leading out from the core toward the surrounding countryside and other cities.
A Sumy map poster reflects both the rivers and the steady growth of the city across the plain. In black and white, the loops of the Psel and the thin line of the Sumka stand out against the surrounding blocks, parks and residential districts. It is a clear, calm image of a city that holds a strong place in the memories of those who come from it.
The river loops along the edge of the city, surrounded by meadows and wooded banks that give the map a soft natural border.
A small tributary winds through the historic core before joining the Psel, drawing a thin, curving line across the city streets.
The old centre sits on higher ground, with a compact network of streets and squares from which main roads radiate outward.

Sumy matters to many people who have moved away from the city, and a map of home can be a quiet, steady presence on a wall. It is also a considered gift for family.
